![]() I removed the radiator cap to find that my coolant level was low, so I poured back in the coolant that I had siphoned from the overflow tank during our trip. When I started her up this morning, the coolant level indicator light started blinking incessantly. ![]() I let the van sit for a day after our trip. I average around 18-22 mpg around town and got 18 mpg on our Saturday drive. I’m running a 50/50 mix of Prestone antifreeze. The temperature gauge needle sits rock steady in the middle of its range. The van drives great, has impressive power, and does not overheat. When we got home, coolant in the overflow tank was about an inch above the maximum line. I siphoned enough coolant from the overflow tank to get it back down to the maximum fill line and drove back home without incident. So, the overflow tank was full and so was the reservoir. After stopping for lunch, I removed the radiator cap to find that the coolant reservoir was full. We cruised at 75 mph and by the time we reached Chamberlain (140 miles), the overflow tank was completely full (not just to the maximum fill line, but to the top of the tank itself). My wife and I drove from Sioux Falls to Chamberlain, SD on Saturday to see the magnificent new sculpture, Destiny, that was recently placed along the bluff above the Missouri River. I have no issues with the coolant overflow tank when driving in town or during short trips on the interstate. I did a pressure test and could not find any coolant leaks. I replaced the plastic coolant reservoir with a Rocky Mountain Westy steel tank to eliminate the possibility that I had a faulty blue radiator cap. I replaced the fiberglass pipes with steel and replaced the rear heater core. I have found a few threads that address similar issues and have tried everything I can think of to fix the problem – except replacing the heads – without success.īased on suggestions from other threads, I replaced the radiator and all hoses. I fear that I have a head gasket issue, but the conversion engine had less than 20K miles on it when installed and I’ve driven less than 30K since installation. The van runs well but I have an ongoing problem with my coolant overflow tank filling up completely during highway trips. I don't normally do that, but just depends how long you want to keep the car, what kind of driving you do, and all sorts of other logistics.ĭoubt this is the case, but the thermostat should be a Subaru item. Not sure if you're planning on keeping this thing much longer but if the cap doesn't work and you begin to suspect something more ominous then i might even suggest some stop leak. Make sure your hoses aren't collapsing under load. they more often than not have head gasket failures without any oil/coolant mixing. It's especially not true at all of Subaru's. it's limited and doesn't apply to all vehicles, engines, failures, and situations. Oh, theres no coolant in the oil or vice versa? so, wouldn't that show up if a hg is gone? nah, that's a very generic and inaccurate idea that is often passed around. In addition, anyone have a throttle position sensor for a 2.2 engine? and I'm looking for a T-connector from the air intake and block to the pcv valve? Cannot find one anywhere? I could hear it gurgle down the coolant? Water pump isn't making any sounds, there isn't any leaking anywhere? Is the temp sensor bad? god I hate to replace that its such a bugger to get to. After a week the overflow tank is full? What is happening? Too much fluid? When I check the radiator I cannot see any fluid? Is the radiator clogged? I don't think so because when I filled it the lower hose had fluid in it. I have good heat in the car, temp guage is normal. I thought well the thermostat is stuck and therefore radiator is overheating and filling up the overflow tank? So, I put in a new thermostat filled the radiator there was fluid in the top hose as well as bottom, so i presume its flowing through the engine? I fill the overflow tank to appropriate level and drive. Ok, so the overflow tank is filling up on my 1995 Impreza.
